We are glad to see the birth of a new direction in payment services and Identity management in Nigeria. On June 16th 2009, Chams PLC, Nigeria’s number one identity and transaction services provider signed a USD$25m dollars contract deal with Bitel Company of Korea and Daewoo International Corporation of Korea. The event which held at the Civic Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, opened new frontiers of opportunities for the Nigerian people.
At Chams PLC, we remain ever excited to be part of this great vision aimed at delivering access to Convenience, Security and Reliability in a multitude of transactions.
In today’s Nigeria, the issues of security and convenience in Payment and other kinds of electronic transactions is a critical one not forgetting access to financial services within those in areas underserved by conventional infrastructure. The Chams PoT will address these challenges.
It is also our strong belief that these terminals will have massive impact on the activities of various governmental institutions – NIMC, NCC, the police, customs and other law enforcement agencies. Our desire is to create a platform that enables us identify ourselves uniquely as a people and thereby allow transactions to be conducted in a seamless, convenient and secure manner.
In the next few weeks, we would be involved in the deployment of these terminals to the entire Nigeria market through a huge distribution framework that will make it easily accessible in every nook and cranny of Nigeria. A range of services would be possible from these terminals. Activities like recharging mobile phones, purchasing an airline or movie ticket, having access to rural and branchless banking, tracking and satellite navigation, stock and warehouse management would be within reach via various retail outlets.
Microfinance banks seeking to reach a bigger audience in a more convenient manner can subscribe to utilise these PoT terminals, so also airlines wishing to make their tickets readily available to their target market can subscribe to use these PoT devices. Event companies are not left out, so also are various logistics and courier organisations.
We also look forward to the creation of job opportunities and the birth to a plethora of Small and Medium (SME’s) enterprises whose activities would revolve around these services.
This is our Nigeria, Our country and we are happy to be part of this new direction.
