ChamsAccess, a subsidiary of Chams Plc, inaugurated its Board of Directors, with a view to strengthen its operation in all its branches.

Chams Access Limited, which is borne out of the need to bridge a perceived information gap in the country and provide the consuming public with the quality and convenient service they rightly deserve, promised to change the landscape of information dissemination, transaction and interactive payment solution business in Nigeria.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chairman, Board of Directors for Chams Plc, Prof. Adebayo Dada Akinde, said ChamsAccess is duly registered to deploy and maintain ChamsAccess Service Terminals (CAST), which is a 24/7 self-service, e-payment platform that allows the use of payment cards.

According to him, it is safe, fast and convenient and does not need human interface. The terminals, he said, facilitate payment of bills, purchase of airtime recharge cards, telephony services and video e-mailing. The company, he added, will also deploy and sell ATMs.

Chams Plc is continually committed to excellence and the formulation and deployment of innovative gilt edged technology, which is not only changing the face of the industry but also cut across all sectors of the economy. The company has built an enabling infrastructure to support its key public sector projects. Notable among these public sector projects is the concession awarded the Chams Consortium by the Federal Government of Nigeria to issue the new national identity cards. These chip-based ID cards, with full fledge biometric data capture, according to Akinde, would have payment capabilities that would ride on the trusted - ChamsSwitch backbone on the backend, will be given a front end interface for usability through an array of infrastructure being deployed by ChamsAccess such as the e-booth consisting of 3 ChamsAccess terminals and 1 ATM.

"Tens of millions of these payment-enabled ID cards will be issued in the coming months, which will open a world of business opportunities for banks, government agencies, and merchants as well as small and medium-scale businesses," he said.

Key services to be offered on the ChamsAccess platform include telephony, airline ticketing, information portal, balance inquiry and mini statement from various banks, recharge card vending, advertising, e-visa, e-premium, games and Internet access.

Akinde charged the members of the board of directors to endeavor to prove the confidence vested on them rightly, promising that Chams Plc has made every endeavor in the area of investment and clientele to bring Chams Access Terminals up on a solid ground. Chairing the board of Director is Chief O. O Osunkeye, OON, and Vice Chairman is Mr. Demola Aladekomo.
